Some customers prefer to just email a "go-ahead" with the work in lieu of actually signing a document and returning (whether it be electronic or hard copy).  Looking for precedent on the legal position of an email as an authority to continue work, either new or change order work.  We do a lot of smaller contracts and without having a contract document and/or proposal signed with terms of payment, etc., I am reluctant to support that kind of practice.  Does anyone have thoughts or experience in this area?  Would like to set formal limits within the operation on this, but want to be realistic with the way we do business with the technology we have today.
    Thanks for any input.
